Ulric couldn’t listen for one more second without intervening. Hearing Sky talking about dying, about killing himself, wasn’t something Ulric could ignore.

He slammed up against the door, but the damn thing didn’t even budge. He heard Sky cry out, and Cora yelled, “What the fuck are you doing, Ulric?”

“I thought that was obvious,” Ulric answered before slamming against the door a second time.

He heard footsteps, but he ignored them, just like he ignored Cora yelling at him. He stepped back, faced the door, and ran at it again. He almost slammed against it, but it opened before he could touch it. So, instead of banging against the door, he ran into the room, and almost fell over the couch.

He managed to stop himself, but he ended up folded against the back of the couch, butt up for everyone to see. He heard Tony guffaw, and he flipped him the bird as he straightened.

“You need to keep that kind of position for Sky’s eyes, and only his eyes,” Cora said. She’d screwed her eyes shut, and she opened one a bit to peek.

Ulric flipped her the bird, too.

Then he turned to Sky. His mate was sitting on the couch, wrapped into a blanket, and he was staring at him with wide eyes. Ulric had to admit this hadn’t been the nicest entrance or the most graceful one. It was the last thing he worried about right now, though.

He pointed his finger at Sky. “You are not going to kill yourself.”

The shock disappeared from Sky’s expression, replaced by a scowl. “You can’t tell me what to do.”

“You sound like a moody teenager.”

“You sound like an asshole.”

“That’s because I am one. Do you really think I’m going to stand by and watch you kill yourself?”

“It’s my decision to make, not yours.”

“You’re right, it is, but I have something to say if you decide to do this because you’re a coward.”

Sky jumped up from the couch and almost fell on his face because of the blanket. He pushed it away, dumping it to the floor. “I am not a coward.”

“Are you sure about that? Because to me, it looks like you don’t even want to make an effort to try to control your ability. You’ve been here a week, and you’re already giving up.”

“I’m trying to protect you!”

“I don’t need you to protect me!”

Cora leaned over the couch and managed to slap both of them upside the back of the head. Sky jerked back, shock in his expression, but Ulric was used to it. He limited himself to glaring at Cora, but Cora didn’t care. She never did. “Stop it, both of you,” she spat out.

“He wants to kill himself!” Ulric yelled.

“Do you think we’re going to allow him to do that? Stop yelling.”

“You can’t stop me from doing anything,” Sky protested.

Cora pointed at him. “I can stop you from doing anything I want if I think you’re being stupid, and you won’t like it if I do, so don’t push me.
